welcome... you are at:: about us
ESTABLISHED IN 1972, the School of Music offers tuition from beginner to diploma standard in most instruments together with speech and drama. The School of Music has 22 enthusiastic and well qualified teachers and about 350 students of all ages.
MAKING MUSIC MAKES YOU SMARTER
Playing an instrument needs accuracy, concentration, hand and eye co-ordination and control. You learn an international language, your auditory perception increases and you have a valuable social skill. People with very different aptitudes and interests find enjoyment and satisfaction in music, whilst those with special needs and learning difficulties find that music making can strengthen their skills in an enjoyable way. (A special needs advisor is available for informal advice.) Many adults find a therapeutic value in music; lessons and practising are so absorbing that for busy people it is a chance to escape from the stresses of everyday life.
